Bentsen-RGV State Park Will Be Closed Monday, January 17—Installing Flood Gates

We just received notice that Bentsen-RGV State Park will be closed Monday, January 17, due to the installation of the flood gates. On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week there may be some delays due to work being done on the levee. Might be best to postpone your visit until later in the week.

New Bentsen-RGV State Park Passes Have Been Requested

Now that the Bentsen-RGV State Park is open (almost all sections are accessible now), we have requested passes for all Bentsen Palm residents and as soon we have them in hand, we will send out an e-blast to all Bentsen Palm residents to come pick up their new passes from Lupita at Rhodes Enterprises’ headquarters at the back of Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort. We have been told by Park personnel that last year’s passes will still be honored, in the interim, but they do request you stop by the office and get a wristband for each visit. Have fun at the park!

Black-Vented Oriole Sighting!

Attracted by the vibrant red blooms of the coral bean tree, the Black-Vented Oriole has been sighted visiting both Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort and Retama Village recently! Get out your binoculars and come see!

Bentsen-RGV State Park Opening Some Areas

Good news from Bentsen-RGV State Park! We can now return, by bike or by foot, to enjoy our favorite birding destination in South Texas–for now–up to Ebony Grove, only. Tram service is still not available and the park staff requests that we “honor the barricades” and go no further than Ebony Grove. So, put on your hiking boots and stroll through at your leisure. We will let you know as more areas of the park are cleared and paths are fortified, so that you can explore more of what makes the RGV so beautiful this time of year–nature!

Bentsen-RGV State Park Still Closed, But Store, Cafe, Exhibit Room Open

The Bentsen-RGV State Park’s Store, Cafe, Exhibit Room (Visitors’ Center) and Meeting Room are open and available for rental. The Park, itself, and remaining facilities will not open until further notice.

NABA International Butterfly Park Under Construction

NABA President, Dr. Jeffrey Glassberg, has been dreaming for more than a decade of a special facility devoted to wild butterflies. Now that dream is about to become a reality. Located on land donated by land owner, Rhodes Enterprises, Inc., NABA International Butterfly Park has begun construction of its new Welcome Center and Exhibit Hall. Bentsen Palm Development residents can watch daily as Dr. Glassberg’s dreams grow right before their eyes.
