“We enjoy warmth because we have been cold. We appreciate light because we have been in darkness. By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness.” – David Weatherford
I don’t know about you, but there are those than can relate to this quote on many levels. It is the first line that caught my eye. It caused me to recall a story that Donna Short, Activity Director at BPV, told me about a clubhouse event during a previous Winter season. She said that on a very cold South Texas afternoon, a High School group called “Razmataz” was performing for our guests in the Clubhouse. Donna explained that she wore winter clothing, a jacket, gloves and even wrapped herself in a blanket to watch the show. She stated “I felt so bad for the kids in the performing group”.
Although these freezing cold days are rare in South Texas, we are hopeful that no guest, performer or visitor to the BPV Clubhouse will ever be uncomfortably cold.
For this reason, you will be happy to know that 15 new electric, infrared, radiant heaters and upgraded breaker boxes have been installed throughout the clubhouse.
“Thanks” goes out to Rhodes Enterprises and the 2011-2012 BPV Activity team for co-funding this project. We appreciate Dale Short, Bruce McCowen, John Scott, Vern Shearer, Ray Morse, Dan and anyone else who lent a helping hand toward the installation of the heaters. They are hardly noticeable. You really have to be looking for them in order to spot them.
Hopefully we can look back at experiences (like the one Donna explained) as the cold that will allow us to appreciate the warmth.
