Top Summer Design Trends for 2017
July 22nd, 2017
While it seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the new year, summer is here and before you move into your new Bentsen Palm home, take some time to look at what interior trends are hot in 2017.
We think these new home trends will be gorgeous in your new South Texas home.
Terracotta
Warm materials such as terracotta tiles will begin to replace the currently popular cool and white tones. The new Terracotta on the market today isn’t shiny anymore. Instead, tiles have a natural matte finish and can be used as feature walls or for enhancing the beauty of fireplaces. Avoid using terracotta tiles that are too rustic and choose a matte finish that will add character and warmth to the beauty of your Coastal Texas interiors.
Dark Green
Dark shades of green are becoming the new must-have warm interior color. Dark green as a paint color for rooms such as a bedroom and living rooms creates warm backdrops for tan leathers and natural linen colors and textures. Choose dark green in a feature armchair or cushions and decor items as an accent, it adds depth and can bring in the colors from the outdoors.
Upholstered Headboards
Beds are changing quickly in 2017. Upholstered headboards are slowly replacing wood bed frames that have been popular for years. Upholstered headboards have been a staple in luxury hotel rooms and celebrity homes for a while, but now we’re seeing them appear in homes across the country. Now they are affordable and easily available in home furnishing stores and even warehouse stores!
Everyone seems to be falling head over heels for the upholstered headboard trend. Whether you opt for the classic model in a neutral color with nailheads or a plush one in velvet, a headboard in upholstery is an easy way to update and add instant warmth to a bedroom.
Graphic Throw Pillows in Jewel Tones
Throw pillows are a fail-safe way to add a fun color or pattern to a neutral sofa, but this year’s offerings are particularly statement-making—sporting poppy hues and eye-catching prints. While pastel shades of pink and blue are currently still popular, they will soon be overtaken by jewel tones inspired by metals, space, stars, clouds and the cosmos. Look for throw pillows that will add a dash of sparkle and interest.
Artisan Goods
Pieces created by hand don’t have to feel crafty or announce themselves as DIY. Etsy started the slow design movement and now big box stores like Walmart, Target, and World Market are all currently offering artisan-made textiles, baskets and wall hangings. Made by nomadic tribes across Africa and South America, these accent pieces are often sourced with fair-trade in mind and you can be assured that no two are the same. Enjoy a bit of whimsey and customization in your new home.
Whatever your choices, enjoy the experience of decorating your new home!
